Created by a Mother Who Understands

Momscapades was founded by Dr. Candace Drummond, a psychologist, mental health advocate, and mother who understands firsthand the pressures that many women face while balancing family, career, and personal wellbeing.

Throughout her personal life and clinical work, Dr. Drummond saw how often mothers put their own needs aside while caring for everyone around them.

Momscapades was created as a space where mothers can prioritize themselves without guilt—through learning, connection, and meaningful experiences that support their mental and emotional health.

Why Supporting Mothers Matters

Momscapades exists to remind mothers that caring for themselves is not selfish—it is essential.

When mothers have opportunities to rest, recharge, and reconnect with themselves, they are better equipped to show up for their families, their work, and their communities.

Questions Many Mothers Ask
When Something Doesn't Feel Right

Is it normal to feel overwhelmed after having a baby?

Yes. Many mothers feel overwhelmed in the early weeks of motherhood. However, if feelings of sadness, anxiety, irritability, or hopelessness persist beyond a couple of weeks or interfere with daily life, it may be a sign of a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. Support and treatment can help.

How do I know if I have postpartum depression or just the baby blues?

"Baby blues" usually appear a few days after birth and resolve within two weeks. Postpartum depression lasts longer and may include persistent sadness, loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, sleep changes, or feelings of guilt or worthlessness.

Why do I feel anxious all the time since having my baby?

Many mothers experience heightened anxiety after childbirth. Constant worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, or feeling unable to relax may indicate postpartum anxiety, which is common and treatable.

Is it normal to feel angry or irritable after having a baby?

Yes. Hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, and stress can increase irritability. If anger feels intense, frequent, or difficult to control, it may be helpful to speak with a professional.

Why do I feel disconnected from my baby?

Some mothers struggle to feel bonded immediately after birth, especially if they are experiencing depression, trauma, or exhaustion. This does not mean you are a bad mother. With support, bonding typically grows over time.

Why am I having scary thoughts about my baby getting hurt?

Many mothers experience intrusive thoughts about harm coming to their baby. These thoughts can be distressing but are often a symptom of postpartum anxiety or OCD. Having these thoughts does not mean you want them to happen.

Why do I feel like I'm failing as a mother?

Feelings of guilt or inadequacy are common in postpartum depression and anxiety. Social pressure and unrealistic expectations often make mothers feel like they must do everything perfectly.

When should I seek professional help?

If your symptoms last longer than two weeks, worsen over time, interfere with daily functioning, or cause thoughts of harming yourself, it is important to reach out for professional support.

Can therapy help with postpartum depression or anxiety?

Yes. Evidence-based therapies are highly effective for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Many mothers begin feeling relief once they have support, tools, and a safe place to talk.

Do I have to take medication?

Not necessarily. Some mothers benefit from therapy alone, while others may choose medication as part of their treatment plan. Decisions about medication are always collaborative and personalized.

Will this go away on its own?

Some symptoms improve over time, but untreated perinatal mental health conditions can persist. Seeking support early often leads to faster recovery and a more positive postpartum experience.

Can I still be a good mother if I'm struggling with my mental health?

Absolutely. In fact, seeking help is one of the strongest and most loving things a mother can do for herself and her child.

How do I set work–life boundaries as a parent?

Balancing professional responsibilities with parenting and personal wellbeing can be one of the most challenging aspects of modern motherhood. Many parents struggle with feeling "always on," which can lead to stress, burnout, and difficulty being fully present at home.

Setting work–life boundaries often begins with identifying realistic limits around time, communication, and personal needs. This may include:

  • Establishing clear work hours when possible
  • Creating technology-free time with family
  • Communicating boundaries with colleagues or supervisors
  • Scheduling time for rest and personal care

Boundaries are not about doing less for others—they are about creating sustainable routines that allow you to care for your family while also protecting your own wellbeing. Resources through Momscapades provide additional guidance and support for mothers seeking practical ways to prioritize self-care and balance multiple responsibilities.
